i think the organizers should allow runners to wear their favored singlets especially those who are joining the 10k and 21k events. wearing a a t-shirt during long runs is not only uncomfortable, (it chafes your neckline and underarms)it also becomes heavy due to perspiration and water douses. seasoned pinoy runners will probably ignore the organizers’clothing policy. i think running and supporting the cause is a lot more important than what you will be wearing.

This is a great event for a noble cause. I just want to give some inputs to the race organizer. It is impossible to fit 50,000 participants at the back of MOA. There wlll surely be chaos on the course and especially at the finish line. I suggest you transfer at the Luneta Grandstand. MOA can only hold maximum of 2500 runners for a decent event. The recent Fit and Right had i think 5000 runners but i heard a lot of complaints. Just my 2 cents. Good luck.

thanks Eric for the advice, and we are also aware of that… we have our means in reducing if not eliminating the problems… We have already done some measures for the safety and welfare of the participants… This event aims for a one of a kind goal… and we are ready for a one of a kind event to serve it’s purpose…. Wish us luck… and may all benefit from this…

  15. December 12, 2009

    7 loops is crazy!!! hehehe!
Question, why are you prohibiting runners from wearing sando(sleeveless shirt)? Isn’t it that it’s the usual attire that most runners wear. You might get a violent reaction here (like for a runner like me) lol!
Anyway, goodluck in this endeavor and more power to you!

    wow 50K runners… good luck…
I’ve been a witness of a race with a 50k runners and i believe even MOA and Luneta GrandStand combined can’t withhold the massive 50k runners..
and wearing a compulsory outfit specially on half mary thats a question mark plus the 7loops?? imagine 21k runners are bored at the usually 21k route in BHS, McKinley,Kalayaan, Heritage route with just single loop what more in 7loops in a single race?? are you going to use a timing chip?? im thinking with 50k runners and 7loops u need a good timing device.. these are just my opinion..

but with the aim of helping others to get a free education im sure runners will join this…

      • January 1, 2010

Organizers, please respect the real runners. Please make realistic plans, not dreamy plans like 50,000 runners cramped in a small race route. 50,000 is the number only for big City Marathons -the 42K, not 5K! So please please please, ayusin nyo naman information nyo. Don’t make your race disappoint the running community.

the venue has a approximately more than 40,000 square meters , which can accommodate 80k – 100k person, we have strategical locations for parking and walk-in traffic, runners have designated start time per category, by which, they will not start at the same time, and would mean the 10m by 3km loop would be very much adequate, there will be chutes per category thus making it easier to monitor runners as they make their loops… This run is only for those who are interested, we are doing everything to make this a worthwhile run, and a very worthy one… We hope to see you there… :)

The FREE education we are supporting is a revolution in public service… Dare to see a revolution in the running community…

This is not a good runner’s run.
    1. Too many people targetted. Do you honestly believe 2 to 3 people can stay in one square meter and not have problems with toilet facilities, movement, much less be able to run? Only non-runners do math like this.
    2. No note of hydration stations: number, distance between, amount and type of fluids available.
    3. No information at all of any awards, much less finisher’s medals and certificates.
    4. No registration place convenient for runner groups such as Takbo.ph. BHS and UP areas, sports stores, any of these would have served better.
    5. The disclaimer in the registration form of nonrefund for any reason. Basically you can get the money, not hold any event, and laugh your way to the bank.
All the seasoned runners have pointed it out above. The only good thing is, I don’t think you’ll be able to get 50,000 people to fork out their hard earned money anyway. Caveat emptor, everyone.

I believe that the Organizer has the Big Picture about the event especially on the technical side! besides I believe that the Organizer with the Reputable Race Director has the capacity to see the possible problems that might encounter on this momentous event. Figuratively speaking they knew it already especially tha Race Director! Just support this unique event! Anyway I am just curious coz even I- i have thought same ideas & questions but then I believe the organizer & race director are better than us when it comes to this event.

This is for a cause & I am sure the regisration fee will be given to the free college! We are here to support! Why?!!! have you seen the proceeds of the other run for a cause like for the river etc. Is there any changes! I believe on this advocacy! I will be part of it! WATCH OUT! & be Amazed! ;)

Good causes and good intentions are not enough to ensure good results though.

I’m planning to run the 21k category but I have reservations. This is the first running event that I’m going to join. I’ve been running for almost ten years now purely for fun. No science behind it, not conscious of time and competition with other runners. For the past five years I consistently run 11 kilometers every running session (once/twice a week, 5 loops of the UP academic oval) Around 2 months ago I started running 7 loops and felt comfortable with it. Then 2 weeks ago I run 8 loops which is equal to 19.8 kilometers, 1.2 kilometers short of the category Im running. I reckon I finished that in one half hour. Again I was at ease with it though quite exhausted. I find the 10k event short and felt that I’ll be cheating myself of the challenge if I take this event since Ive been running 15+ kilometers regularly. My question is, am I endangering my health if I run the 21k with no scientific training or even descent program to follow? Should I take the 10k challenge instead but miss the chance the joy of competing in a half marathon? Can anyone give me any advice or tips during the last few weeks of training before the event? So far with God’s help, I never injured myself from running. I run for fun and not for competition. Im not looking to be in the top ten since there are many professional runners joining. Ill be contented as a finisher. Best of all I consider the purpose of the event as the driving force in joining no matter what category. I believe in the intent of the event and I salute Kuya Daniel Razon for this beneficial affair. To God be the glory.

PS: what running clubs can I join? My email: josephjohn_fernandez@yahoo.com

It’s better for you to run for the 10k category based on your running performance. We don’t like to put your health on risk. Joining with the believers of the event’s advocacy is worth running for and a big chances you can meet a lot of running groups there where you can join.

Aren’t there any considerations particularly with the attire of 21k runners? Wearing a freesize cotton shirt while running for 21k would probably produce calluses in our necks and the shirt will eventually become heavy.

i support the cause (assuming there’s no hidden political motive)… but i simply cannot see myself 1.) running 7 loops around moa 2.) in a free-size cotton shirt 3.) together with supposedly 50,000 other runners 4.) with very minimal information regarding, well practically everything about race logistics.

1.) very taxing on both mind and body, prone to cheating, and will cause major logistical problems once all runners from the different categories converge.
2.) if you are to impose the cotton shirt, then may runners also request for tons of petroleum jelly to prevent the serious chaffing that would cause? (not to mention, the amount of sweat)
3.) i have participated in a real race with 50,000 runners, and i am 100% certain that the moa complex will not be able to accomodate such a huge number of people… unless those 50k people will just be standing still on one spot… but afaik, your event is not a concert or rally.
4.) information regarding hydration, potalets, and even the basics like race-kit pick-up are normally supplied on the first day of registration.

I’m really sorry to hear that from you, John Rambo? This event was initiated for a good advocacy and reason, and mainly because a huge number of supporters attended, the crowd had no capability to run anymore, as doing so would result into a chaotic stampede. Agree?

You should open your heart and mind to these wonderful programs that Kuya Daniel initiates for the benefit of the brethren, and non-brethren alike.

Have a good day to you, John Rambo. May one day, you’ll see the truth.

Even the physically challenged ay hindi nagpa-awa’t.

We all saw the passion of more than 50,000 supporters of the noble cause which is FREE EDUCATION. Tumakbo man o hindi at least they knew the reason why they were there.

Well, the answer is ‘NO’ dahil MORE THAN 50,000 po ang dumating.

john rambo said —–”owsssss..anong tawag sa ginawa niyo?…45,000 nag ALAY lakad, 5000 ang tlagang tumakbo?”

Still the answer is ‘NO.’ Wala pong nag-alay lakad during marathon. At more than 5,000 ang talagang tumakbo.

O sige, ipagpalagay man na may naglakad, ANO NAMAN NGAYON SAYO?

See you all guys sa susunod na Marathon!
And john rambo must not forget to bring abacus.

    para kay john rambo.

manood ka ng new york at boston marathon.

Official Marathons may humihinto, nagpapahinga, at naglalakad.

I praise your advocacy and plans to support free college education to our fellow Filipinos…

Just one comment. The record you are trying to beat, the New York Marathon in 2009, had 43,659 finishers (not participants). And all of the participants run the official distance of 42.195 km. The 50,000+ participants in your event participated in various distance races (300m, 3k, etc.). It’s not proper to compare.

As for the world’s largest marathon in terms of participants, I suppose this is the record holder (much like your event with participants in various distance races):

2007 ING Taipei International Marathon = 110,000 participants

You are actually right… the New York marathon is still wolds no.1 in terms of “finishing participants” and its not comparable to this one…

but still… this kind of advocacy is bar none incomparable in terms of of its intents…

Taiwan ING marathon is only stated only in Taiwan websites not even in the list of Marathon events ever occured. and its not stated there that it is “registered participants”

Great North Run will ‘not expand’

The Great North Run will not expand to accommodate more entries despite two people applying for every place this year, organisers have announced.
More than 100,000 people tried to gain a place for the half-marathon between Newcastle and South Shields, but only 54,000 will be able to take part.
